About the Artist

Gustina Atlas is a member of The Crossroads Quilters. Based in Port Gibson, the Crossroads Quilters make beautiful hand-made quilts. Working together to celebrate their quilting heritage, their work also helps others by generating income and opportunities for members of their community. Many of the quilt tops are the work of one craftsperson, while others are a collaborative effort. Some feature block design, others are stripped together; almost all are quilted together by the women who have been working together for decades.

What is mastery to Atlas?

"To me it means that you're supposed to be pretty good. I think quilting is just like anything. Sometime you mess up at it. I think it just takes a lot of practice over and over. I don't think you ever just master it as such. At least I don't feel that I have cause there's a lot of patterns I'd never dare try to make."
