About the Artist

Richard Jolley was born in Kansas in 1952, earned his BFA from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1974 and did graduate studies at Penland the same year. His work is included in the collections of museums in the U.S. and abroad, including the Museum of Art and Design, NY; Corning Museum, NY; Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art, CA; Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art, D.C.; International Glasmuseum, Denmark; and the Kunstmuseum, Germany. He has had numerous solo exhibitions over the past 25 years, including his most recent exhibition “Richard Jolley: Sculptor of Glass” which opened at the Knoxville Museum of Art in 2002 and traveled through 2007.

"It is a very small step from mediocre to great. Many times just one or two small things make the difference. Eighty hour weeks lead to mastery in the development of the touch of the hand. Concentration is extremely important."
