About the Artist

Ron Meyers has an MFA degree in ceramics from the School for American Craftsmen, Rochester Institute of Technology. He is Professor Emeritus from the University of Georgia from where he retired in 1992. Having worked in clay for 40 years, he is known for his gesturer treatment of utilitarian forms that serve as canvasses for his often humorous yet slightly maniacal depictions of various animals.

What is mastery to Meyers?
“Mastery is a mystery.” Meyers believes that one masters a technique and then moves on to something that is not mastered. In order to keep an edge to the work, it is important to move on. He is experimenting with soda firing and also wood firing.
