About the Artist
The Crossroads Quilters, based in Port Gibson, make beautiful hand-made quilts. Working together to celebrate their quilting heritage, their work also helps others by generating income and opportunities for members of their community. Many of their quilts are the work of one craftsperson, while others are a collaborative effort. Some feature block design, others are stripped together; almost all are quilted together by the women who have been working together for decades.

Do you have a special quilt or blanket that someone made for you? What makes a handmade quilt or blanket different from a mass-produced blanket?

What is mastery to Nash?
Even thought Nash has been designated a master quilter by the Mississippi Arts Commission and has taught apprentices in their folk art program, when asked about mastery, she just laughs and says, “I never quite understood that word.”
Nash on Story Quilting

“Most the time when I’m doing a narrative quilt, I kind of like describe to my daughter what the scene’s supposed to look like and then she would draw the pictures and then I would take that and cut it out to make my pattern. And sometimes she would place them but I don’t like her placement so I go back and redo what she had done.”
