About the Artist

Brian Nettles’s current work references the long cultural history of his birthplace along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. These wheel-thrown and hand-built clay forms might be in themes of maritime history or the long tradition of art pottery, but investigate the craftsmen that passed before Nettles in the local area.

The article and pictures at this site tell the amazing story of how Nettles’s studio and home were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, how the ceramics community has helped him to rebuild, and how he is helping others.

What is mastery to Nettles?
“I think it is important to teach the up and coming craftsmen and help keep them motivated, for it is getting harder to make a living from your hands.”
