| Toth began making helmets
in partnership with his grandfather, who was his
mentor. After the death of his grandfather, Toth
had to take five years away from helmet making because
he missed his grandfather so much. When he returned
to the work, he took a somewhat different approach.
“I tried to indulge
myself into how I wanted my helmets to look and
think of it as more of an art form and go for
what I felt was a more aesthetic approach to making
the helmets … I try to maintain [functionality]
and build to the same standards my grandfather
did, but to add the aesthetic element, to evoke
emotion and response out of the viewer, to present
myself or the helmets as a piece of art as well.”
“These helmets are
not only renowned for their superior performance
as functional diving gear, but they are also exquisite
pieces of maritime art.”
“An expertly crafted helmet that should
survive 30 or 40 years of daily use.” |
