“My metal work is functional and created in sterling silver and gold. The technique that I use could be called three-dimensional tessellation.

"For example, in a mosaic the design is constructed by arranging numerous pieces of colored glass tessari”.

“Similarly, when I work in metal, I construct many small cut and formed pieces of metal to create three-dimensional shapes. These constructions contain space, expose light and cast color by reflection”.

What is mastery to Woodman?
“While I studied in Finland I found that the instructors focused on the students learning a process thoroughly. Then another process was taught and so on until the student was given a most difficult test. When that test was passed the student was given the title ‘Master.’ Having been through that process and having earned that title gave me an appreciation of the true meaning of mastery.”
