Connections Gallery - Carole Demesmin - Spiritualist Educator

Carole Demesmin is a multi-talented Haitian artist and Vodou priestess. Like many religions, Vodou has ceremonial artifacts that are masterfully handcrafted. Demesmin went back to Haiti to learn her culture and discovered the ceremonial artifacts of the pakèts kongo. Revered by the Haitian community of South Florida, Carole Demesmin is also a performer and community activist.

Born and raised in Haiti until she was thirteen, Demesmin still feels a deep connection to her homeland and is distressed by the conditions of poverty, environmental degradation, and political troubles of the country.

She has a home in Haiti and spends part of every year there. She has created the Carole Demesmin Foundation, a nonprofit organization in the U.S., the mission of which will be to fund Haitian aid groups. She has three objectives for her foundation: improving the environment by supporting groups that plant trees, providing health care for AIDS patients, and establishing a legal fund for immigrants.
