Connections Gallery - Gene Koss - Glass Sculptor
To use the audio component of this page you will need to have Javascript turned on and have Flash Player 9 or better installed.

Koss’s midwestern roots with blue-collar values are central to his approach to sculpture and his great respect for craftsmanship. Utility is referenced in his work, both in metaphorical terms and through implied movement. Often site-specific, his work references the landscape and use of the land. His subject matter and personal drive keep Koss continually pushing against the boundaries of scale.

Koss is very closely connected to his community, the glass community. In New Orleans, sculptors, dancers, architects are all part of it. Koss wants to raise money for an endowed chair in glass at Tulane. His legacy

is to push glass into fine art having built up his studio to that end.

Passing on what he knows to others is of great importance. “I grew up in a religious family and was taught to share. I do not hold back anything. Groups come down to my studio to see the tools and methods I use. The studio is always open to everyone.”
