Richard Prisco, furniture maker/designer
Richard Prisco is committed to creative problem-solving and thoroughness from design to fabrication to final presentation. His cabinets have expert dove-tail joinery and he finishes to perfection even those parts of a piece that will never be seen. His designs make no references to past furniture; his connection to the past is through a reverence for processes and techniques of the highest levels of craftsmanship.
The community around the school where Prisco teaches (Savannah College of Arts and Design) is an important part of Prisco’s life. He also has contact with an artistic community of non-furniture artists in town. The students become community because of constant communication about all facets of furniture. He likes being at Penland [School of Crafts in North Carolina], in part, because the community there is … intense, diverse, committed.
