Bonnie Seeman, ceramic artist

Seeman finds her local environment of orchids and
“weird plant forms”
a never-ending source of inspiration. Her fascination with this subject matter began with her grandfather who painted native plants. Commemorating his death, she made cups and saucers combining her love of highly crafted European ceramics

and his plant imagery. For Seeman, the plant and sea imagery of south Florida can personify the continual struggle between life and death.

The South Florida environment is the big influence... South Florida plants. If one drives an hour or two north, the flora changes. The orchids and weird plant forms in her neighborhood are unique and very important. Seeman’s environment is lush and bizarre. Her ocean coral work comes out of the fact that she lived in a coral-rock house growing up.
