Kimberly Sotelo, artist

“My hands are not the creator of my work, but rather the facilitator of an interaction between materials, ideas and influences. It is like alchemy. When all these different elements get mixed together, something unexpected happens …This is the creative process I live for ... unexpected moments can be

life-altering, process-changing, but no matter what, those moments create a piece of work, whether it is life, art, or craft.”

"I guess for other people they're weeds, but for me, it's my material…I really pay attention to the sticks and what I'm gathering. It's kind of like I get to know the willow I'm picking…I pick the willow, and then the next year a whole new crop grows up. I feel like it's a whole philosophy for me. It's not just making the furniture."
