Visit the Show

Tradition/Innovation is currently on tour across the country. The exhibit tours with an audio guide, featuring many of the artists in the exhibit in their own words and voices. To plan your in-person visit, see the tour schedule.

Look and Listen:   If you can’t attend the exhibit, we invite you to experience Tradition/ Innovation virtually. Although not the same as viewing these works in person, our  on-line gallery allows you to engage with these remarkable artists and their work at any time. There you can...

...Meet the Artists by choosing an artist's name to go to each indiviual's page. Through photographs, interviews and stories, learn more about each craftperson's approach to their work, see the connections to their communities, and read comments on what mastery means to them.

...View the Art from the entire exhibit, piece by piece, and see several of the three-dimensional artworks in full view through the 360º Gallery.

...Read the Visitors Guide for an in-depth look at six of the artists and masterpieces, ranging from a Mardi Gras costume to stunning jewelry.

You can also collect the work of these living masters; learn more on the Purchase page.

Host museums may offer programs for students and educators. In addition, this exhibit website offers a rich array of learning activities and teaching materials that you can use in conjunction with your group’s visit or, if you cannot attend, can be used to supplement your existing curriculum, or used in conjunction with “virtual” visits to the exhibit online.
