For Educators - Pre- and Post-Visit Activities - Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts on museum visits are a simple and fun way to make sure that your students really focus on the exhibited art and see it in some detail. You could use the artworks – or details of the artworks - from the Visitors Guide as items for you students to find or you could try some of these approaches:

  • Find three functional works of art in each section of the exhibit.
  • Find an art object whose purpose is narrative.
  • Find three art pieces that look like plants.
  • Find an art object made from plastic.
  • Find two art objects that use feathers.
  • Find three art objects that are made to be worn.
  • Find three art objects that are related to the water.
  • Or come up with your own ideas.
For each of the above activities, have students copy the information from the exhibit labels.
