Tradition/Innovation is
currently on tour to nine states in the Southeast,
on exhibit in Atlanta from March through May 2008 and
running through 2010. The exhibit tours with an audio
guide,
featuring
many
of
the artists
in the exhibit in their own words and voices. To plan
your
in-person visit, see the tour
schedule.
If you can’t attend the exhibit in person, we
invite you to experience Tradition/Innovation
virtually. Although not the same as viewing these works
personally, our virtual galleries, materials and audio
guide allow you to engage with these remarkable artists
and their work at any time.
Virtual
Galleries – “Tour” the exhibit
either through the four sections—Cultural
Practice, Relationship to Place, Innovation and Evolution,
and Connections—of the physical
exhibit, or to view the artwork by medium.
Audio
Tour – Hear an overview of the exhibit,
featuring several artists telling their own story
of their creative process, artistic and family history
and relationship to their work.
Photo
Gallery – Images of the artwork in Tradition/Innovation
link to Meet the Artist
Pages, giving you background on the artist and links
to learn more.
360°
Gallery – Tradition/Innovation
features three-dimensional works of contemporary craft
and traditional art. Experience the full impact of
four of these remarkable pieces, presented in a 360-degree
“movie.”
Visitors
Guide – Download a PDF of this four-color
Guide. Featuring 10 of the exhibit’s artists,
the Visitors Guide is a way for you to explore and
experience more deeply 10 of the artworks, and learn
about the artists who created them. It is designed
to move you through the four sections of the exhibit
so you can see a range of artwork in different media
and styles.
Each host museum will offer programs for students and
educators. In addition, this exhibit website offers
a rich array of learning activities and teaching materials
that you can use in conjunction with your group’s
visit or, if you cannot attend, can be used to supplement
your existing curriculum, or used in conjunction with
“virtual” visits to the exhibit online.
